This past Sunday, the RedBull Thre3 style qualifier was held at Mirage night club. The event is a competition to see who’s the best party rocker in the suburbs. DJ is given 15 minutes and to play atleast 3 genre, and are judge on, mixing, song selection, crowd reaction, and technical skill. The judges this night were DJ Hedspin, DJ P-luv, 2 red bull representatives. There were 10 Dj’s all over B.C. from Squamish, Whistler, Vancouver, and even Delta, fighting for the number one spot for the Regionals. This being my first serious competition, I was hella nervous, but besides that I was able to meet fellow DJs, Network and drink some Red Bull.
The night started off a little bit slow, the competition was initial was to start at 9, but the club was dead empty so it was pushed back to 10 o clock. Names were drawn out of a hat, and I was second to go. By the 1opm there was some what of a very small crowd. DJ Praiz went first and I was on after.
After following DJ’s Praiz set and being on Deck with the judges looking and my friends in the crowd. I was nervous. What also shook my nerves even more, is when I started the set there was no volume present for the first 10 seconds. I had to restart my set which threw me totally off. Needles to say I didn’t pull of my routine as I planned, but in those 15 minutes I learned so much about DJ’n and set times.
After my set, 8 other djs went on. I was surprised to see DJ’s using CDJs; From all the Redbull Thre3 Styles that I’ve every been too, all the DJ’s have used CDJ’s. There a few DJs who were able to pretty impressive on the CDJ’s.
At the end of the night, DJ Praiz came first, DJ C-styles came 2nd, and DJ Rich-A came 3rd.
DJ Hedspin, Redbull World Champ performed an amazing set after the winners were declared.
The Regionals will be May 3rd at Fortune Sound Club.
I’ll keep you posted on this.
I received some awesome news! I am a Finalist in the Redbull Thre3 Style Vancouver Suburbs Qualifier! My online mix submission was one of the Top 8! This Apirl 1st I’ll be competing against 7 other Djs for the May 3rd Regional Redbull Thre3 style. I’m excited ,ecstatic and nervous about this!
I really have to bust my a$$ off to really rock the crowd!!
This time around, I have more time to make my set flawless and even better than before.
Here is my last minute mix submission
As always I’ll let you know how the competition goes.
So I went Mirage Night club on Sunday for the March 18th qualifier, and to my surprise when I went to the entrance of club the Doorman told me that the Redbull event is cancelled! The doorman stated that Redbull was unorganized and couldn’t setup the properly. Apparently the head organizer could not be in town, because the organizer was in Quebec for crash ice. Redbull decided to cancel the event last minute, and will reschedule to have a Qualifier Final on April 1st and have no more preliminaries.
I submitted a qualifier mix, (check out my mix here) and I haven’t heard back from Redbull, I think there’s still a chance for me to be apart of this Qualifier, if Redbull can get there act together!
I’ll keep you guys updated with this
I’m a Big fan of RedBull Thre3 Style, I have attend every single RedBull Thre3 Style in Vancouver except for the very first that was held at Sonar/Fabric back in 2009. Every year since then I’ve been to every Redbull Thre3 Style Event in Vancouver. I wittiness dj P-Luve, hedspin, Win the Vancouver 2010, 2011 title ( link to blog post I made ) and this past year I even witness the WORLD RedBull Thre3 Style held at Commodore, which was amazing!
These Competitions are a chance to see true dj skills. This year RedBull did something totally unexpected, they are having submission entry qualifiers for the suburbs. Usually to compete in the RedBull Thre3 Style Event you have to be invited, be a well known dj and know the promoter master minds Gman & Rizk. This year Redbull is taking submission entries for a qualifiers, having a mini red bull series for one spot in the Vancouver RedBull Competition. This qualifier has the same set up 2 days of 8 djs throwing down 15 minutes sets and top four of each day (which I’m assuming) competes in the Final Competition and the winner gets an entry spot in the Vancouver; a very big deal since the winner will be facing against Vancouver’s Best DJs. This qualifier is an excellent opportunity for not so well known dj’s to showcase there talent.
I found out about this qualifier two days ago from DJ Flipout facebook page. Event Page here. The Deadline is Today and I just finished my submission entry. I know, I procrastinate but can you blame me I just found out very last minute. I did the best I could with the very limited time I had, had to make a few sacrifices . If I get invited to compete in the suburb qualifier that would be AMAZING and A DREAM come true.
Below is my submission entry,
Wish me luck, and I’ll continue updating my status on this, regardless if I get to compete or not, I’m definitely going to check out this qualifier.
